Woman killed in bus accident

A woman passenger was killed yesterday when a bus went out of control and left the road near the Mission Lodge at Sans Soucis.

Seven other people were admitted to Victoria hospital and 37 treated there for minor injuries, the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation’s (SPTC) operations manager Desire Payet said.

Those admitted to hospital did not suffer any life-threatening injuries, he said in an interview at the bus terminal in the presence of SPTC chief executive Veronique Laporte.

According to the passengers, the driver was not speeding when the 40-seater bus – which left Victoria at 12.20pm heading to Port Launay via Sans Soucis – went out of control.

Mr Payet said the driver also reported to the hospital with minor injuries, and the SPTC is investigating the incident.

The SPTC management expressed its sympathy with the families of the woman who died and of the injured passengers.
